"Offspring"

Top level Obsidian Glass Gallery Sculpture

Who holds the future in their hands?

Our children.

My daughter was born just before the design and execution of this work. The relevance of the title comes from various aspects. Firstly, the glass can be removed from the metal “cradle” and must be handled with care. It should be held in your arms as a newborn baby, protective and lovingly.

Lenses cut into the top elements represent vision. How will my child perceive the world? The red and yellow are symbols of warmth, which could also suggest compassion, with which she will hopefully gaze onto the world.

Both the top elements are parallel to one another bringing to mind a tuning fork – music, harmony, balance, thought…

The red ivory and steel stand is an element of growth and industriousness. These attributes refer to the family, the “cradle” in which my offspring rests.
