THE LIGHTER SIDE

What’s your relationship with light? Or life? Could you, possibly, be missing something? Could something, perhaps, be passing you by?

1st Artist’s Introduction/Inspiration:

“Glass and light are intrinsically connected in the sense of reflection, refraction, colour and shape. Glass, which you use every day (Think of your kitchen, lounge or bedroom. The light bulb you switch on, the window you look through, a TV screen, CD player or, the bottle containing your favourite wine), manipulates light.” – Lothar Böttcher

In my sculptures glass becomes the focal point. Through the glass the surrounding light and space is manipulated, in a sense captured. The viewer is drawn to the anomaly in space and becomes aware of the surroundings within the glass. What I am creating are lenses, showing a point of view (abstractly), changing perspective and observation of the contiguous space.

We see the world around us every day but do we really observe and understand our role in it? So much gets filtered and obscured by believes and personal experiences. Everybody has a unique point of view. The variables are multitude.

Glass becomes a proponent of light. Using science and the theory of observation one could almost explain the experience. Almost…

2nd Artist’s Introduction/Inspiration:

“Without light there is no subject. Without subject (particles and waves) there will be no light. Call it the “Ubuntu” of the Universe. There’s a funny side to existence if one thinks of everything as black and therefore invisible, until there’s light! Until it happens…” – Ignus Gerber

Ignus Gerber

I’ve been woking in the profesional areana since 1992. My work has graciously, received numerous recognized awards. I have been called, “expressive,” with a “talent for iconography” whose “play on light and colour lends depth of character and beauty to images.” For all this, I’m truly grateful.

Yet, having travelled to 21 countries and looking back at my personal material and favourites, I wish to share some of these: a compilation of images which capture the unexpected, humourous and surreal aspects of life.

Moments we so often see, yet overlook…

3rd Artist’s Introduction/Inspiration:

“Sound is capable to create various environments transporting the listener into a virtual world. Sound cannot only be heard, but can be felt and even seen, creating all kinds of possibilities. Just close your eyes and see the light within”-
Justice Mokoena

Justice Mokoena

Growing up in Limpopo Province, Duiwelskloof area. I was strongly influenced by my ancestral backgroung and ancient native language, Lobedu. Since my youth I’ve been fascinated by various sounds from all walks of life. I have been involved in various fields in the art world, covering printing, papermaking and specialising in creating sound sculptures. I use this to communicate and enlighten others of my perspective in life and my unique cultural background.
